Coglition ("we," "us," or "our") is an AI-powered college application coaching platform built for first-generation and underserved students in the United States. Our platform is available at coglition.com and app.coglition.com. You can reach us at contact@coglition.com.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when creating an account and using our platform, including:

• Account information — your name and email address when you create an account via Google, Microsoft, or email
• Personal information — your state of residence, graduation year, first-generation status, and parental education history
• Academic information — GPA (weighted and unweighted), standardized test scores (SAT, ACT), class rank, AP/IB/Honors courses, and dual enrollment information
• Extracurricular activities — activity names, roles, organizations, hours per week, and descriptions you choose to share
• College preferences — the colleges and universities you add to your application list
• Essay content — personal statement drafts and other essay content you submit for AI analysis and grading
• Feedback and support submissions — bug reports, questions, and feature requests you submit through our platform

We also automatically collect limited technical data when you use our platform, including your browser type, pages visited, and general location derived from your IP address. We use this only to improve platform performance.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and maintain your Coglition account
• Analyze your academic profile and generate personalized college admission probability estimates
• Provide AI-powered feedback on your essays, extracurricular activities, and overall profile
• Power our AI chatbot to answer your college application questions in context
• Store and retrieve your saved applications and results across sessions
• Send you service-related communications and platform updates
• Respond to your support requests and feedback submissions
• Improve the accuracy and quality of our AI models using anonymized, aggregated data only

We will never use your personal information for advertising purposes, and we will never sell your data to third parties.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share your data only with the following trusted service providers who help us operate the platform:

• Supabase — our primary database and authentication provider. Supabase stores your account information, profile data, application data, and results securely with Row Level Security enabled. View Supabase's Privacy Policy.
• Google and Microsoft — if you sign in using Google or Microsoft OAuth, we receive your name and email address from these providers. View Google's Privacy Policy and Microsoft's Privacy Policy.
• Netlify — our hosting and deployment provider. View Netlify's Privacy Policy.
• Legal requirements — we may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Coglition or its users.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information and application data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. If you request deletion of your account and data, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained indefinitely to improve our platform.

6. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Coglition's services are directed at high school students. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Users must be at least 13 years old to use Coglition. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at contact@coglition.com and we will promptly delete it.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and personal information
• Export your application data
• Opt out of non-essential communications at any time
• Withdraw consent for data processing where applicable

8. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information. Your data is stored securely in Supabase with Row Level Security enabled — meaning each user can only access their own data. Authentication is handled via industry-standard OAuth and secure email verification. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. Contact us immediately if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account.

9. AI Data Processing

When you use Coglition's AI features — including acceptance chance analysis, essay grading, AI feedback, and the AI chatbot — your profile data and essay content may be sent to third-party AI APIs to generate results. This data is transmitted securely and is not used to train AI models. AI-generated results are estimates only and should not be treated as guarantees of any college admission outcome.

10. Third-Party Links

Our platform may contain links to third-party websites, including college and university websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify registered users via email. Continued use of Coglition after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
